When Fashion Cares

We've all seen those fashion crazed people, fashionistas, fashion junkies, label w@#*%, you name it- they're out there. Fashion magazines and fashion advertising are constantly coming up with new ways to be more glamorous, more elitist and top brands strive to achieve that "untouchable"  and irreplaceable status. It is not by chance, that the fashion business has a bad reputation when it comes to treating their employees or even socially questionable behavior such as promoting the usage of fur. Nonetheless, fashion is a $47 billion dollars industry and with or without a financial crisis, its powerful stable brands like Chanel have increased their prices this year; which only indicates that this industry is maintaining its perceived value and is here for the long haul.

With that said, this blog is not about the fabulousness in fashion, or how the industry is able to survive in these difficult times. This blog, as the name indicates is to show the socially conscious side of fashion. Its to show fashion caring for people and not the other way around. We'll explore brands that use their advertisements not only as a medium to sell their products, but to do a social service, expose a problem, support a cause or just to bring public awareness. Throughout the last few decades many brands have done this very successfully and in some cases this "protest" voice has become part of their brand identity. It is quite inspiring to see well-known brands using their advertising dollars for a greater good, and to counter-act the attitude that the fashion world is filled with shallow elitist money-thirsty mercenaries. Hopefully, these campaigns attain their goal and inspire us all.
